Self Efficacy - What do you think of yourself?

It is about the perceived beliefs of people about their potentials to perform to their desired levels that effects their lives. Self-efficacy is that how people feel, think, motivate themselves and behave. Such beliefs produce several diversr effects.

A strong or a positve sense of efficacy boost actualizationt and personal well-being in many ways. People with high confidence in their selves and in their capabilities approach difficult tasks as challenges to be mastered and learned rather than as threats to be avoided. Such an efficacious outlook fosters intrinsic interest and deep interest in activities. They set themselves challenging targets and maintain strong commitment to them. They heighten and sustain their efforts in the face of fiascos. They quickly recover their sense of efficacy after failures or setbacks. They attribute failure to lack of effort or insufficient knowledge and skills which are acquirable. They approach threatening situations with assurance that they can exercise control over them. Such an efficacious outlook produces personal accomplishments, reduces stress and lowers vulnerability to depression. In short they stay positive no matter what the situation is!

In contrast, people who doubt their capabilities run away from difficult tasks or show hesitations and build premonitions which they view as personal threats. They have low aspirations and weak commitment to the goals they choose to pursue. They lack confidence. When faced with difficult tasks, they dwell on their personal incompetancies, on the obstacles they will encounter, and all kinds of adverse outcomes rather than concentrate on how to perform successfully. They slow their efforts and give up quickly in the face of difficulties. Also, they are slow to recover their sense of efficacy following failure or setbacks. Because they view insufficient performance as deficient aptitude it does not require much failure for them to lose faith in their capabilities. They are the victims f depression.

I think this is point in our personalities that has to be dealt accordingly or gradually. There may be steps, procedures or therapies to overcome this obstacle, but i think self-motivation is the best way to fight this cause the best mentor is our ownself! i am doing this...i am feeling already better :) and i think i am privilaged enough to be able to identify my weakness and fight them back!
